The crash occurred about 6:50 a.m. near 190th Street, just south of Hastings, according to the State Patrol.
Killed was a 42-year-old man from New Brighton, the patrol said. His identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
He was driving south on Hwy. 61, crossed into the northbound lane and continued into the ditch, where he hit a road sign, according to the patrol.
