If you've been going miles out of the way to avoid construction on Hwy. 13, the major east-west artery south of the river, it might be safe to return.
Work on a major intersection upgrade along the road west of downtown Savage is nearing completion, and traffic is now following its permanent configuration, state officials say.
The new and unusual intersection is located at the point where 13 turns southward toward Prior Lake and Hwy. 101 begins en route to Shakopee. It includes a flyover bridge allowing some motorists to zip above what had been a heavily clogged portion of road.
Work is still being done on medians, and lanes will still close from time to time beneath the bridge and along westbound 101 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to do lane striping and finish installing overhead signs, the state reports.
The work is part of a series of upgrades speeding traffic in the area, notably the erasure of stoplights on Hwy. 169 just north of the river.
