The recent heavy rains have made a slope above Hwy. 13 in Mendota unstable to the point it could come sliding down onto the road and a nearby bike trail.

To stablize things and prevent a landslide, MnDOT is closing Hwy. 13 between 2nd Street and Lexington Avenue at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The closure is expected to be in place until June 17.

Additionally, Big Rivers Regional Trail along Hwy. 13 between Mendota and Lilydale is closed indefinitely.

A small mudslide was reported on the path last week, said MnDOT spokeswoman Kirsten Klein. That prompted MnDOT to call for the emergency closure and get in and stablize things, she said.

While no specific detour has been set up, the best routes to navigate around the closure is to use Hwy. 110 and I-35E as alternates.
