Hudson to rejoin Twins on Tuesday; team hopes he returns to lineup in 2-3 days

SEATTLE -- After staying in Minnesota to have tests on his surgically repaired left wrist, Orlando Hudson will rejoin the Twins on Tuesday in Seattle, and the team hopes to have him back in the lineup in two to three days, General Manager Bill Smith said today in an e-mail to the team's beat writers.

Hudson injured the wrist on the final play of Sunday night's victory over Texas. X-rays were inconclusive, so he underwent a CT Scan on Monday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

"The scan shows an old fracture, but nothing acute (new)," Smith wrote in the e-mail. "Dr. Dan Buss also spoke with the surgeon who did Orlando's wrist surgery at the end of the 2008 season and compared results.

"Orlando will fly to Seattle tomorrow and we will re-evaluate his status on a daily basis and hope that he can return to the line-up in 2-3 days."

The Twins open a four-game series tonight against the Mariners.

"He's got a little more movement and feels better today," Smith said in an interview earlier Monday.

Hudson, who had reconstructive surgery on the same wrist in 2008, injured himself this time on a collision with center fielder Denard Span, who caught the ball to secure the victory and seemed to be OK.

Hudson, 32, has been a big catalyst for the Twins this season in the No. 2 spot of the batting order, hitting .305 with a .377 on-base percentage, 10 doubles, two triples, three homers, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. A four-time Gold Glove Award winner, Hudson has committed just two errors in 49 games.

Update: Michael Cuddyer is making his first start at second base since July 23, 2005.

Update: The Twins didn't land in Seattle until 1:50 a.m. (Pacific). They reached their hotel at about 2:30 a.m. ... Manager Ron Gardenhire said Alexi Casilla's right elbow is still too sore to start a game. He can be used off the bench, to pinch run for Jim Thome, for example. Casilla is taking anti-inflammatory medication, and if that doesn't work, he might need a cortisone shot. ... Clay Condrey (strained right elbow) has resumed a throwing program after getting a second opinion and weighing his options. There had been talk of him possibly shutting things down for a couple months.

Cuddyer said he and Nick Punto were discussing the team's injury situation on the team flight and realized the best idea would be Cuddyer moving to second base. Cuddyer walked back to Gardenhire on the plane, and Gardenhire said he'd been thinking the same thing.
