A driver who sped past a vehicle in western Wisconsin crashed his car and later died, authorities said Monday.

The wreck occurred about 10:50 p.m. March 27 on Hwy. 35 north of Hudson in St. Joseph Township, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

The driver was identified as Brian T. Foster, 35, of Hudson.

Foster was not wearing a seat belt and was possibly under the influence of alcohol, authorities said. He died April 4 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Foster was heading south on Hwy. 35, sped past another vehicle, strayed onto the right shoulder, landed on a guardrail and hit a tree, the Sheriff's Office said.

He is survived by a wife and three children.
