How to speak prepper

May 5, 2017 at 12:30PM

If there's one thing that preppers like better than dried beans, it's acronyms. Here are a few that you can toss around to prepare for the end:

BOB: Bug-out bag, a ready-packed kit full of food, water, first aid and other emergency supplies and tools to enable short-term survival in an evacuation. See also BOL (bug-out location).

BOV: Bug-out vehicle, which ideally will be equipped to survive an EMP (electromagnetic pulse). Otherwise you might have to rely on a BOB (bug-out bicycle).

GOOD: Get out of Dodge.

INCH: I'm never coming home.

FEMA: Foolishly expecting meaningful aid, or why some preppers think YOYO (you're on your own) in the case of a big disaster.

WROL: Without rule of law, or why magazines devoted to survivalism often have reviews of weapons and body armor.

TEOTWAWKI: The end of the world as we know it.

WTSHTF or SHTF: Similar to TEOTWAWKI, loosely translated as when the feces make contact with the air circulator.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
