How to get your best shot

1 Mornings and evenings are when the light is best for photography. Also, especially in the morning, the wind is usually at a minimum.

2 A photography blind can be as elaborate as a store-bought version, or as simple as a tarp or blanket with a hole cut for a camera lens.

3 Birds have favorite branches on which they perch. Train your camera in that direction and have the settings preset so you can concentrate on framing your subjects when they appear.

4 The peak of fall color sometimes lasts only a few days, so be prepared for when the time is right.
