How Much Snow to Expect

Enough snowfall to disrupt travel for millions of people will spread out of theMississippi Valley and into the East early in the week.Today, the heaviest snowfall will target the Ohio Valley into West Virginia andsouthwestern Pennsylvania. Three to six inches of snow will pile up over muchof this area. Snowfall totals will near a foot in the mountains of WestVirginia.

Tonight and Tuesday, the snow will shift northeastward into New England. Asmuch as a foot of snow will bury a swath from western Massachusetts to centralMaine through Tuesday. Warmer air in front of the storm will limit snowfall toa coating to an inch along the coast of southern New England and themid-Atlantic. Still, roads in these areas could still become slick inspots.

Unlike recent storms, this one will spare the big I-95 cities of its worst snowwith about an inch or two from Washington, D.C., to New York. Marginaltemperatures, mixing with rain and lower overall precipitation, will all serveto check the output of snow.
