Not only will fresh, brutally cold air sweep across the eastern two-thirds ofthe nation this week, but also snow at the leading edge of this arctic blastwill complicate travel from the northern Plains to the Northeast, as well asparts of the South. The snowfall from the northern Plains to the Ohio Valley will be powdery.

Residents will not have to worry about the snow being difficult to shovel orweighing down tree limbs and power lines.

The fluffy nature of the snow, however, will make it easy to get whipped aroundby gusty winds. The worst blowing and drifting snow threatens to impact travelgreatly across the northern Plains and Midwest Wednesday night andThursday.

The storm should intensify off the Northeast coast, but that strengtheningappears to take place well offshore at this time. Only a couple of inches ofsnow is expected in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington,D.C.

The South will not be exempt from receiving snow; 1-2 inches of snow willwhiten places down to northern parts of Mississippi, Alabama and GeorgiaThursday into Thursday night. Atlanta lies within this zone. Snow will fall asfar south as Montgomery, Ala., and Columbia, S.C., but it should only make anappearance.
