The warmth overspreading the Northeast this weekend will give the region a preview of summer, but not mark the beginning of the hottest season. The return of more comfortable air is in sight.

After undergoing noticeable warming today, temperatures will soar into the 80s throughout the Northeast Saturday. Similar temperatures will continue to bake most of the region Sunday into Monday. A cold front, however, will sweep the warmth out of upstate New York and northern New England Sunday. The cooler air will press into southeastern New England Monday.

Any relief from the summerlike warmth will be brief. The day after temperatures cool, warmer air will surge back in. However, the passage of a cold front may likely return more comfortable air to the Northeast by Wednesday.
