Twin Cities public transit users could see reduced service and fare hikes under a transportation budget bill the Minnesota House passed early Thursday morning.

After hours of debate, the House voted 71-61 to cut $109 million from rail and bus operations in the Twin Cities.

The Metropolitan Council said the funding limits could result in a 25-cent fare increase and service reductions, including elimination of weekend service.

DFL Gov. Mark Dayton is expected to veto the measure, which first must get through the GOP-controlled Senate.
