WASHINGTON — The House has passed an additional stopgap spending to make certain the government doesn't shut down at midnight Saturday when current funding authority runs out.
The move would give the Senate additional time to process a $1.1 trillion government-wide spending bill.
It's not clear if the measure will be needed. Senate leaders hope to wrap up action on the omnibus budget bill Friday night, but it would take a lot of cooperation to do so. Senate rules give any individual senator the ability to gum up the schedule.
The House passed the measure by voice vote with the chamber virtually empty.
