A St. Paul hotel desk clerk faces invasion-of-privacy charges after allegedly making audio recordings of a couple having sex during their honeymoon in December.

Jeremiah C. Marg, 28, of Burnsville, was dedicated to the task, according to charges filed Friday, first positioning his recorder near the bathtub and later the bed.

He was arrested on Dec. 28 at Hotel 340 after the groom spotted the recorder under a door leading from the hallway to Room 1006. A subsequent search of Marg's laptop revealed the sounds of other people having sex, too.

According to a search warrant filed in February, Marg was a registered predatory offender as result of a 2002 conviction in Wisconsin for having shown sexual material to two girls.

He allegedly told a police sergeant investigating the St. Paul incident that he lost the recorder and had not seen it since Dec. 23. When asked how it could end up in one of two rooms rented that night, he requested a lawyer and the interview ended, the search warrant affidavit states.

According to its website, the Hotel 340 is a "full service boutique hotel" with 35 rooms on the top three floors of the former St. Paul Athletic Club, 340 Cedar St. The general manager could not be reached for comment Friday.
