Details: A Texas-based ownership group is seeking to build a new hotel in Oakdale along the route of the proposed Gateway Corridor Gold Line bus rapid transit project.

Patriot Hospitality Group of Irving, Texas, is proposing the facility for a vacant lot along 4th St. N. in the city, not far from the Interstate 94-County Road 13 interchange. The area is a bustling commercial zone that is now seeing the redevelopment of the former State Farm headquarters across the freeway in Woodbury — a project that itself includes a pair of new hotels.

The 2.4-acre Oakdale site is currently owned by an entity related to restaurant franchise developer Wendy's FourCrown Inc., according to Washington County records. But under plans now on the table, it would instead become a 100-room Hampton Inn & Suites. The lot is adjacent to an existing Hilton Garden Inn.

Patriot Hospitality has 13 hotel properties in its portfolio, mostly located in Texas and Oklahoma, but also owns a pair of Holiday Inns in Ames, Iowa. Snyder & Associates of nearby Ankeny, Iowa, is serving as the Oakdale project's manager.

City planners noted the new hotel's parking capacity may be impacted by alignment of the Gold Line, which has just completed its draft engineering documents as its backers seek federal funding. Its route would include a potential station on 4th St. N. near the entrance to the proposed hotel.
