Goodwill store size: 20,600 square feet

Existing building size: 38,604 square feet

Developer: Wellington Management

Architect: DJR Architecture Inc.

Details: The Chaska Commons community retail center is getting a major boost with plans for a new Goodwill store and the repurposing of an underused medical office building under plans submitted by St. Paul's Wellington Management.

The company last month received city approval for construction of a new, 20,600-square-foot Goodwill store on what is now the parking lot for Ridgeview Medical Plaza.

The new Goodwill store will feature a unique brick exterior facade requested by city officials to conform with the retail center's architectural standards. It will be the third Goodwill retail outlet developed by Wellington Management in the Twin Cities.

The company will attempt to revitalize the 38,604-square-foot Ridgeview Medical Plaza. The building has been mostly vacant since 2011, when Ridgeview Medical Center opened its Two Twelve Medical Center and most tenants moved to the new facility along Hwy. 212.

The older building will be repositioned for retail and office uses. Ridgeview will remain as a tenant with 12,000 square feet of administrative space, while retail space for smaller shops, professional services and restaurants will be created.

Developer Steve Wellington told the Chaska City Council he intends to break ground on the new Goodwill in spring and have construction completed by September.
