JOLIET, Ill. — Sam Hornish Jr. is the fastest qualifier for Sunday's STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Hornish reached 178.341 mph in his No. 12 Ford. It was Hornish's first Nationwide pole since Watkins Glen last August.

Hornish was followed by defending race winner Elliott Sadler, whose fastest lap was 178.265 mph. Sadler won this race last year despite an illness.

Austin Dillon, Matt Crafton and Travis Pastrana round out the top five. Crafton is making his second career Nationwide start after finishing third at Kentucky Speedway this year.

Regan Smith, who leads the series standings by five points over Hornish, qualified 13th. Joey Logano, the only Sprint Cup regular in the field, will start in the seventh position.
