Hopkins, DeLaSalle grab top seeds in boys' basketball state tournament

With Apple Valley knocked out of the tournament, the Royals are the No. 1 seed in Class 4A. DeLaSalle is vying for a third consecutive title in Class 3A.

Hopkins and DeLaSalle are the top seeds in the two biggest classes of schools competing next week in the boys' basketball state tournament in Minneapolis.

Pairings released Saturday by the Minnesota State High School League have Hopkins, the No. 1 seed in Class 4A, playing Tartan in a quarterfinal game at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Target Center. In Class 3A, No. 1 seed Islanders will open the quarterfinals against St. Paul Center at 10 a.m. at Williams Arena.

Class 4A quarterfinals, Wednesday at Target Center
#1 Hopkins vs. Tartan, 10 a.m.
#4 Osseo vs. #5 Shakopee, noon,
#2 Lakeville North vs. Buffalo, 2 p.m.
#3 Cretin-Derham Hall vs. St. Francis, 4 p.m.

Class 3A quarterfinals, Wednesday at Williams Arena
#1 De La Salle vs. St. Paul Central, 10 a.m.
#4 Orono vs. #5 Marshall, noon
#2 Austin vs. Alexandria, 2 p.m.
#3 Holy Family vs. Cloquet, 4 p.m.

Class 2A games are Wednesday evening at two sites
#1 Annandale vs. New London-Spicer, 6 p.m., Target Center
#4 Caledonia vs. #5 St. Paul Academy, 8 p.m. Target Center
#2 Esko vs. East Grand Forks, 6 p.m., Williams Arena
#3 Fairmont vs. St. Peter, 8 p.m., Williams Arena

Class 1A quarterfinals, Thursday at Williams Arena
#1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa vs. Park Christian, 11 a.m.
#4 Canby vs. #5 Fond du lac, 1 p.m.
#2 Maranatha Christian vs. Red Lake, 3 p.m.

Semifinals in Class 4A and 3A are Thursday at Target Center. Semifinals for Class 2A and 1A are Friday at Target Center. The championship games in all four classes are Saturday at Target Center.
