Homeowners wanted proof of inspection

No date on their gas meter left Minneapolis couple worried.

A Minneapolis couple became concerned when a CenterPoint Energy contractor didn't prove it showed up for a scheduled gas meter inspection required by federal pipeline safety rules.

The utility told them that internal records showed the inspection was completed in June, but the couple wanted to know how CenterPoint can confirm an inspection occurred. Spokeswoman Becca Virden said the contractor is supposed to write the date of the inspection on the indoor meter so the homeowner has a record that someone was there. The couple said there was no date written on their meter. After they complained, the utility scheduled a new inspection.
