This plan combines the best assets of Craftsman style with an easy-to-navigate ranch layout. Entered from the columned front porch, the foyer has an 11-foot ceiling, wood columns and a clear view of the rear patio. The great room is a soaring vaulted space with exposed beams and a fireplace flanked by built-in bookcases. Nearby, the open dining area boasts a window wall as well as French doors that lead to the covered back porch, perfect for al fresco meals. The spacious kitchen features a large island, a separate prep sink and a walk-in pantry. In the home's left wing, the master suite offers built-in cabinetry for media storage and a private door to the rear patio. The master bath opens into a large walk-in closet with direct entry to a convenient laundry room. Two more bedrooms are on the opposite side of the home, not far from the mudroom. The side-entry three-car garage includes a workshop area and doesn't dominate the front facade.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
