Holy Hip-Hop!

February 11, 2008 at 1:36AM

A dozen icons of the hip-hop world, from Kanye West to Snoop Dogg, have been immortalized in a series of paintings created by famed Russian artist Alexander Melamid.

"Holy Hip-Hop!" is on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit through April 20.

Melamid and the museum hope the exhibition sparks discussion of the global impact of hip-hop and how the culture influences ideas about wealth and power. Meanwhile, the National Portrait Gallery is showing "RECOGNIZE! Hip Hop and Contemporary Portraiture."
