Holiday travel tips

• Travel early -- and late. The most popular travel days are Wednesday and Sunday. Crowds -- and fares -- drop if you avoid those dates.

• Travel light. Using only a carry-on bag saves time and money. If you have to check a bag, do it curbside.

• Don't wrap gifts. All that pretty paper may be torn asunder by Transportation Security Administration workers required to inspect packages. Also, leave the cranberry preserves and sauce at home. Your turkey is welcome, however, as long as it is stowed securely in the overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you.
