The upcoming week of high school tournaments is a perfect complement to the holiday season: a bouquet of matchups with all sorts of tasty possibilities, but ultimately it's little more than style over substance. The games won't have a significant impact on the postseason, but there is fun to be had.

Boys' BaskeTball

Augsburg Tournament: Five of the eight teams in the field are ranked, including Hopkins (No. 11, 4A), Wayzata (No. 12, 4A), Eastview (No. 13, 4A), St. Paul Johnson (No. 2, 3A) and Minneapolis North (No. 1, 1A). The tournament begins Monday and runs through Wednesday. Monday's quarterfinals kickoff with the best matchup of the day, a 1:30 p.m. meeting between Wayzata and St. Paul Johnson, followed by Eastview vs. Andover at 3:30 p.m., Henry Sibley vs. Hopkins at 5:30 p.m. and Minneapolis North vs. Chanhassen at 7:30 p.m.

Eden Prairie Invitational: A solid four-team field, led by host Eden Prairie (No. 6, 4A). The Eagles are 9-0 and averaging more than 83 points per game, including back-to-back 100-point outings in victories over St. Paul Johnson and Minnetonka. They play No. 5, 3A Waconia in Monday's semifinals at 7:30. Prior to that, Shakopee (No. 9, 4A) takes on Chaska (No. 18, 4A) at 6 p.m. The third place and championship games are Tuesday at the same times.

BOYS' HOCKEY

Schwan Cup • Gold Division: A top-flight eight-team field, including four teams ranked among the top seven in Class 2A: Edina (No. 2), St. Thomas Academy (No. 4), Hill-Murray (No. 5) and Eden Prairie (No. 7) and featuring 12 players who have made Division I hockey commitments. All games are at Ridder Arena, with Monday's quarterfinals as follows: Burnsville vs. Eastview at noon, Eden Prairie vs. Hill-Murray at 2:30 p.m., St. Thomas Academy vs. Duluth East at 5:30 p.m. and Edina vs. Minnetonka at 8 p.m. The tournament runs through Wednesday.

Sports Authority Classic: The field is equally as good at the St. Louis Park Rec Center, where six of the top 20 teams in Class 2A will gather for a three-day round-robin affair. Monday's first-round matchups are Prior Lake (No. 9) vs. Benilde-St. Margaret's (No. 7), 2 p.m.; Lakeville North (No. 1) vs. Moorhead (No. 19), 4:30 pm and Holy Family (No. 17) vs. Wayzata (No. 3) at 7 p.m.

WRESTLING

The Clash Duals: An annual must-see event for wrestling fans kicks off the new year with 32 of the nation's best high school wrestling teams coming together at the Rochester Community and Technincal College on Friday and Saturday. Most of the top teams in Minnesota will be there, including Apple Valley, St. Michael-Albertville, Hastings, Simley and Totino-Grace, as well at traditional powers like Oak Park, Glenbard North and Carl Sandburg, all from the Chicago area, Wasatch (Utah), Jefferson (Ga.) and Bound Brook (N.J.). GIRLS' BASKETBALL

St. Olaf Holiday Classic: Fifteen games are on the schedule, five each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The biggie comes on Wednesday, when No. 1, 4A Eastview meets No. 2, 4A Hopkins at 5 p.m. It will be the second meeting of the season between the two powers. Defending state champion Eastview won the first one, beating Hopkins 75-70 in overtime on Dec. 6.
