A 53-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver on St. Paul's West End Friday evening, police said.

The woman, whose identity was withheld pending notification of her next of kin, was hit on Randolph Avenue at View Street about 6:42 p.m., said Watch Cmdr. Steve Frazer.

The vehicle did not stop after the accident near W. 7th Street, which was witnessed by her friend, he said.

"She had parked her car on the side of the street, and was getting out of her car on the traffic side and was hit," Frazer said.

"She was in front of a residence," the commander added.

The woman was taken to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Crash reconstruction officers were working at the scene late Friday, and no description was immediately available of the vehicle or the driver, he said.

Among evidence that officers will look for, as they try to identify the vehicle, are images from any security cameras possibly on businesses that are nearby in the mostly residential area.
