High winds with the potential to disrupt travel and cause minor damage are instore for the Eastern Seaboard through tonight. Even where damage does notoccur, the winds will make it an even more miserable where soaking rain isfalls. Many top wind gusts will reach 40 to 50 mph along the East Coast, but speedswill exceed 60 mph locally. Strong, southerly winds will also continue to rakethe southern and central Appalachians.

During today's morning commute, the highest winds will strike the heart of theI-95 corridor between Washington, D.C., and Connecticut. During the midday andafternoon, the thrust of highest winds will shift out of the mid-Atlantic andover eastern and northern New England.

Minor wind damage will take place with the most forceful winds. Late Sunday andSunday night, winds downed trees and power lines across parts of the centraland southern Appalachians through the Carolinas. More power outages arepossible today, but the biggest problems will be focused farther north.

Motorists will need to brace for sudden cross winds which will make for trickydriving. The combination of high winds and poor visibility owing to heavy rainwill also delay, even cancel, flights at the major airports.
