High school lacrosse state quarterfinals underway

A first-ever quarterfinal round is being held at Chanhassen High School for girls' teams and Chaska High School for boys' teams.

The state high school lacrosse state tournament begins Tuesday with games for boys' and girls' teams participating in the first-ever quarterfinal round.

Eden Prairie is the top-seeded team for boys and girls. The defending champions from 2012 – Eastview boys and Blake girls – are both seeded second in the tournaments.

The boys' quarterfinal games are at Chaska High School, beginning with Champlin Park (No. 3 seed, 13-2) against Totino-Grace (9-5) at 1 p.m.

Other games include Eastview (No. 2 seed, 12-3) vs. Orono (12-3) at 3 p.m., Blake (No. 5 seed, 10-5) vs. White Bear Lake (No. 4 seed, 14-1) at 5 p.m. and Eden Prairie (No. 1 seed, 15-0) vs. Rochester Mayo (11-4) at 7 p.m.

The girls' quarterfinal games will be held at Chanhassen High School, beginning with Elk River/Rogers/Zimmerman (13-3) against Stillwater (No. 3 seed, 14-2) at 1 p.m.

Other games include Armstrong (14-1) vs. defending champion Blake (No. 2 seed, 13-3) at 3 p.m., Champlin Park (9-5) vs. Eden Prairie (No. 1 seed, 15-1) at 5 p.m., and Burnsville (No. 5 seed, 14-1) vs. Lakeville North (No. 4 seed, 12-4) at 7 p.m.

The Minnesota State High School League expanded the tournament from four to eight sections this spring in recognition of the sport's growth.

Semifinals will be played Thursday, with the boys' games at Chanhassen and the girls' games at Chaska. The finals will be Saturday at Chanhassen.
