Minnesotans Daniel and Nancy Burkes were the high bidders Monday at a sale for 2-year-olds held in Fort Worth, Texas, in conjunction with the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity.

Eight Mile, a chestnut stud colt by Metallic Cat out of Cappuccino and Pasta, was purchased by the Burkes, of Hibbing, for $400,000. The seller was Crown Ranch LP, owned by Chad and Amie Bushaw of Weatherford, Texas.

A total of 122 horses traded hands Monday, with sales totaling just under $4 million. The top five sellers averaged $232,000.

Nancy Burkes is a member of the Minnesota Cutting Horse Association.

Futurity sales were held daily this week and conclude Saturday. The futurity ends Saturday night with the open division, or professional rider, championship. The finals will be streamed live, but viewers must register in advance and pay a fee.
