Here's where you can't drive in Minneapolis Sunday

If you're out and about in Minneapolis on Sunday, here are a couple of road closings to be aware of:

• All city parkways will be closed to motorized traffic from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday for the Minneapolis Bike Tour. It will begin and end at the Parade sports complex at 400 Kenwood Pkwy. All roads along the tour's 14- and 36-mile routes will be closed. Proceeds from the event go to Minneapolis' park system. For more information, go to www.minneapolisbiketour.com.

• Lake Street will be closed from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday from Bloomington to Portland Avenues for the Mexican Independence Day parade. A related block event will close E. Lake Street from Portland to 2nd Avenues from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Streets leading to those parts of Lake Street will be blocked off during the events.

And here's a heads-up about next weekend: If you're driving near Hastings, be aware that both directions of Hwy. 61 over the Mississippi River will close at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and remain closed for up to 72 hours as crews float the main span of the new river bridge into place. Motorists will be detoured using Interstate 494 and Highways 52 and 55.
