Hennepin County to supply Golden Valley 911 service starting in 2015

June 11, 2014 at 4:30AM

The Hennepin County Board voted unanimously Tuesday to provide 911 service to Golden Valley starting in 2015.

Golden Valley now receives dispatch service from Edina, but since 2012 had sought to switch to Hennepin County dispatch to save money. Golden Valley pays Edina $140,000 a year for 911 service, even as residents pay a county dispatch tax for a service they don't receive.

The county's new Emergency Communications Facility in Plymouth is expected to open by the end of the year. Golden Valley will pay a one-time transition fee of $54,000, and 911 service from the county will begin in January.
