Hennepin County's Webber library will relocate for now

November 9, 2013 at 10:10PM

Webber Park Library, which closed in July after ceiling tiles began buckling and falling while people were in the building, will reopen in December in leased space in Camden Center.

The temporary location for the Minneapolis library is at 4203 Webber Pkwy., just down the street from the closed building.

Books, computers and furniture will be moved from the closed library to provide a browsing collection for adults and children, pick-up of reserved materials and space for work or study.

Library hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Library officials have said the Webber Park Library will be closed until decisions can be made about the building's future.

The library gets heavy use, and the county wants to replace the 1980 building with a new library that is at least twice as large. But it has been unable to come to terms with landowners at its preferred site.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
