The Hennepin County Library was the fifth most-searched library in the United States in 2012, according to Google's annual "Zeitgeist report," which tracks Internet search trends.
The only libraries with more searches were the Library of Congress and public libraries in Chicago, Brooklyn and New York City.
The report did not say how many searches were done.
Library director Lois Langer Thompson said that the ranking demonstrates the quality of the library's website and shows that the library is a leader in providing services to residents.
Filling out the top 10 U.S. libraries in search rankings were libraries in Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles and San Diego.
Hennepin County has 41 libraries in Minneapolis and the suburbs, serving 1.2 million residents with about 5 million books, DVDs, newspapers and other materials.
