Help Me Find "Freckles"

"Freckles" is a Springer spaniel that went missing only a few miles from Pheasants Forever's National Headquarters one month ago on May 24th. Some folks fear public speaking; others are terrified of heights and airplanes. Near the top of my list is losing my German shorthaired pointer, Trammell.

"Freckles" is a black and white Springer spaniel that went missing in my neighborhood (and only a few miles from Pheasants Forever's National Headquarters) one month ago on May 24th. Since that time, Freckles' owner has put up thousands of posters, flyers, and mailbox stuffers notifying the greater northeast Twin Cities of her missing Springer. I've even caught a glimpse of a vehicle with a call for Freckles' long awaited return home.

I don't know Kathy or "Freckles," but I am moved to tears with each passing day this beloved pup remains missing and Kathy's efforts escalate.

Some folks fear public speaking; others are terrified of heights and airplanes. Near the top of my list is losing my German shorthaired pointer, Trammell. She's an obedient dog, but she's a hard charging dog that will chase the scent of a broken-winged pheasant for miles. I've seen a grown man leave North Dakota for his Wisconsin home in absolute shambles after two days of hunting pheasants and three days of unsuccessful searching for his lost bird dog. I don't ever want to be in that guy's shoes.

So, tonight as I was mowing the lawn, I contemplated Trammell sleeping on the deck, my neighbor walking her golden retriever along the road, and my folks love for their Brittany. I decided it was high time I helped Kathy and other dog owners with lost bird dogs - call it paying it forward, good charma, or just doing the right thing.

I realize many of you reading this on Facebook, the Pheasants Forever, Minneapolis Star Tribune, or Des Moines Register websites will never be geographically close enough to realistically find "Freckles."

The point is there is, or will be, a beloved pup like Freckles that goes missing in your area one day. When Freckles goes lost, do what you can to return the pup to its owner - keep your eyes peeled, take the long route home, or simply blog about it. A worried dog owner will be indebted to you forever.
