Heavy Rain, Mountain Snow to Target California

Rain, some heavy, will invade California tonight into Monday. This will end avery long streak of dry weather for the Golden State.A few spotty showers may arrive in the Los Angeles Basin, while the rest ofCalifornia remains dry today.

As a Pacific storm moves over California and Nevada, rain and mountain snow tobreak out with increasing coverage and intensity tonight and on Monday.

Moderate to heavy rain will spread inland over the southern half of the state,such as greater Los Angeles and San Diego. The rain could cause flash floodingand mudslides in recent burn areas.

Rain will become snow along the Sierra Nevada to the Southern Californiamountains and east into the High Desert. Travel delays are likely alongmountainous stretches of I-80. The heavily traveled Tejon and Cajon passes inSouthern California could have dangerous travel conditions.

Another shot of Golden State rain and mountain snow could take place by late inthe week. The second storm may prove to be an even bigger trouble maker.
