Heavy Rain from Gulf to New England

A sopping wet storm will cause heavy rain from the Gulf states to New Englandwithin the next 36 hours. The heaviest rain will fall in the South where localamounts may be as great as 5 inches. However, both the mid-Atlantic region andNew England can expect 1 to 2 inches of rain from the storm, an amount whichwill most certainly cause minor flooding.In the Washington, D.C., area, plan on the rain to get started around noonWednesday with the heaviest rainfall coming late in the day and the first partof Wednesday night.

In New York City, the rain should begin around dinnertime Wednesday with theheaviest downpours coming during the middle of the night.

In New England, the heaviest rainfall will occur later Wednesday night intoThursday.

A strong cold front trailing southward out of the storm will bring strongthunderstorms to the Southeast Wednesday. Some of the storms may producedamaging winds and hail.
