Heat has remained absent from the Pacific Northwest so far this summer, butthat will change next week.Significantly warmer air is set to surge into the Pacific Northwest startingTuesday as the jet stream builds northward. Temperatures will exceed Monday'shighs by roughly 10 to 15 degrees across the Interstate 5 corridor fromSeattle, Wash., to Portland, Ore., to Medford, Ore.

Further warming will take place on Wednesday. Temperatures will soar into the80s for the first time this year in Seattle. Portland will record its first90-degree day. The average date of such an occurrence in Portland is June30.

The upcoming surge of heat in the Pacific Northwest will not be a brief event.

Temperatures will continue to sizzle each afternoon through at least nextweekend.

Dealing with hot temperatures is definitely not something residents of thePacific Northwest have had to do yet this summer. June was an unusually cooland wet month for the region. The warmest temperature reading so far this yearin Seattle is 77 degrees. That temperature is 83 degrees for Portland.

Cool air will once again be in control of the Pacific Northwest this Fourth ofJuly. Temperatures across western Washington will be held to the 60s, whilehighs in the 70s will be common in western Oregon.
