On average, high heat is the biggest killer from extreme weather in the UnitedStates. There is, on average, 115 fatalities from heat each year, compared to71 from flooding, according to the National Weather Service.Tornadoes were the third highest killer, followed by lightning and coldweather.
These results did not take hurricanes into account, which can be highlyvariable from year to year.
