John Hiatt

What to do on a rare night off in Los Angeles? Go with the flow..

I went Hollywood Thursday night with dinner at the celebrity-friendly Dan Tana's, super expensive but super fun. That was followed by my first visit to the legendary Troubadour to see John Hiatt kick off his tour, the first with a band since I don't know when. Great two-hour plus show with a proper mix of classics and new material. No big celebrity spottings, but I'm pretty sure Twin/Tone co-founder Peter Jesperson was standing behind me.

Set list:

Thank You Girl/TIl I Get My Lovin' Back/The Open Road/Crossing Muddy Waters/Cry Love/Drive South/Paper Thin/Like a Freight Train/Detroit Made//Don't Want to Leave You Now/Thing Called Love/Feels Like Rain/Perfectly Good Guitar/Adios to California/Slow Turning/Tennessee Plates/Memphis in the Meantime

Encore: Damn This Town/Have a Little Faith in Me/Riding with the King

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
