Several hundred people gathered Saturday at Levee Park in Hastings at a Rally for Trans Kids. The event was organized to show support for transgender, nonbinary and LGBTQ young people in Hastings, following a CNN report that outgoing Hastings school board chair Kelsey Waits was targeted during her re-election campaign by a group of parents who outed her second-grader as transgender, leading to online and in school harassment of the family.

The story sparked an effort to show support for the family on social media and among businesses and residents in Hastings.
