Had Enough Yet? Hope for the Coming Week

January 9, 2010 at 8:25PM

Would all you folks that live in the Midwest enjoy a January thaw right aboutnow? It's been pretty nippy lately, hasn't it? In Chicago, the temperaturehovered in the mid-20s much of the afternoon on Friday, and Minneapolis stayedin the single digits all day. There is no help coming right away, I'm afraid. The harsh cold will persistthrough today. Sunday will start to feel a bit better, though, as the coldestair starts to recede.

Next week, a full-fledged January thaw will encompass all of the central andnorthern Plains and Midwest with temperatures climbing as much as 50 degreeshigher than they are right now.

How long will the thaw last? It's hard to say. Usually these things run theircourse over a few days, then it's back to the rigors of winter.
