Gymnastics: Five metro teams to watch 2016-17 season

Star Tribune FIVE METRO gymnastics TEAMS TO WATCH

1. Roseville (2A): The Raiders have four gymnasts back from 2016's Class 2A runners-up, including two top 10 all-arounders in Kayla Soplata and Jessica Strecker.

2. Champlin Park (2A): Taylor Guckeen is gone, but Liz Hammond, Emily Perkins and Chaney Neu are back and that's a special group.

3. Cambridge-Isanti (2A): The Bluejackets lost just five routines from last season and, according to coach Wendy Rooney, "our returning girls look stronger than last year."

4. Rosemount (2A): The Irish have three all-state performers, led by junior Josey Schlie.

5. Minnetonka (2A): The Skippers return their entire lineup, buoyed by four individual state meet qualifiers.

Others to watch: Edina, Prior Lake, Buffalo, Farmington, Eagan, Wayzata.
