Guthrie's new 'Christmas Carol' casting announced

British stage and screen actor Daniel Gerroll tapped to Scrooge

British stage and screen actor Daniel Gerroll has been tapped to Scrooge in the Guthrie Theater's 36th-annual production of "A Christmas Carol" this year.

Gerroll, who played Henry Higgins in the Guthrie's 2004 "Pygmalion," has appeared on TV's "Ugly Betty" and "The Starter Wife." He leads a cast that also includes Lee Mark Nelson, Virginia S. Burke, Bob Davis, Nathaniel Fuller, Kate Eifrig, Summer Hagen, Kris L. Nelson, Isabell Monk O'Connor, Angela Timberman and Nic Few, whose last Guthrie appearance was as th funkster ruler Theseus in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2008.

After 35 years, the Guthrie has jettisoned Barbara Field's adaptation of Charles Dickens' story in favor of a new adaptation by British playwright Crispin Whittell. Guthrie head Joe Dowling directs.
