Guthrie offers free event Friday: 'Anthems for Community'
Under artistic director Joseph Haj, the Guthrie Theater has made a concerted effort to be more nimble and responsive to the community, hosting conversations, town hall meetings and performances in the theater's Dowling Studio under the aegis of the Level Nine Initiative, underwritten by the Mellon Foundation. But the latest offering is a "Happening" in the lobby. The hourlong program celebrates the contributions of our diverse community with songs and readings by Guthrie artists and staff, followed by treats. Cookies and lemonade will help to foster conversation that may spill outside the theater, weather permitting. (5:30 p.m. Fri., Guthrie Theater, 818 S. 2nd St., Mpls.
