Gunfire from one vehicle struck a car fleeing into a school bus lot in Delano early Tuesday, slightly injuring the targeted motorist and damaging two buses on the property, authorities said.

The incident unfolded about 2:20 a.m. along County Line Road, just north of Hwy. 12, according to Wright County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Treichler.

"I cannot give a definitive answer" to whether the two people involved knew each other, Treichler said.

The shooter remains at large, the lieutenant added.

According to the lieutenant:

The driver said a car with one headlight followed him out of a Holiday gas station. The driver fled into the Stahlke Bus Service lot about a third of a mile north, and that's where someone in the pursuing vehicle started shooting.

Gunfire sent glass flying, leaving a small cut on the face of the man being pursued. Bullets also damaged one bus behind a garage door and another parked outside. There was no one in the garage or the buses at the time.

No one connected to the incident is associated with the bus company, and transportation services for the Delano School District were unaffected, the Sheriff's Office said.
