MADISON, Wis. — A gun rights group has filed a lawsuit against Republican Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen alleging his state Justice Department's concealed carry rules limit training class sizes.
DOJ adopted permanent rules enacting Wisconsin's concealed carry law on June 1. The rules require concealed carry permit applicants to show proof they've taken a hunter's safety course, been discharged from the military or an instructor-led firearms course. The rules limit the size of courses to one instructor for every 50 students.
Waukesha-based Wisconsin Carry, Inc. filed a lawsuit Thursday contending its training courses routinely exceed the 50:1 student-instructor ratio and shrinking its classes would be a waste of its resources. The group alleges DOJ exceeded its authority when it set the ratio.
A DOJ spokeswoman declined comment.
