A St. Paul man was convicted Thursday night in the murder of Renaldo Terez McDaniel earlier this year.

Jurors received the case against Daryl N. Curtis, 35, Thursday, and several hours later convicted him of first-degree murder and second-degree murder with intent. Curtis was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

McDaniel, 31, was shot just after 8 p.m. on June 12 outside of O'Reilly Auto Parts on Lexington Avenue N. in St. Paul.

Antionette R. Johnson, 30, of Minneapolis, is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder with intent in connection with McDaniel's death. Tameka Rae Smithson, 37, of Fridley, pleaded guilty to aiding an offender for her role in the crime, and is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

According to court documents: A clerk at the auto parts store saw McDaniel talk with the occupants of a maroon SUV that had pulled up. The SUV left the parking lot, and then three to four gunshots rang out. McDaniel died at the scene.

Smithson, Curtis' fiancée, allegedly told police that Curtis saw someone he had a dispute with while driving through the parking lot, ordered Johnson to pull over and said, "I am going to go over and shoot him."
