A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty to fatally shooting another man last summer during a robbery, according to an announcement Tuesday from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
Darrius Davantae Parkman, 20, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the death of Michael W. Jones Jr., 30, of Minneapolis.
According to the criminal complaint, Parkman had met Jones on a bus, and not long after that, they met in a hall of an apartment building at 2201 5th Av. S. on Aug. 18. Parkman admitted to police that he told Jones he would sell him marijuana, but instead pulled a gun on him to rob him. Parkman shot him when Jones tried to take the gun away.
Police tracked Parkman after he fled to Chicago. Authorities were already looking for him in connection with another armed robbery in Minneapolis. That robbery charge was dropped as part of the guilty plea.
Parkman will be sentenced Jan. 29. Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of more than 28 years.
