Ancient Materials – Modern Designs

Opens Saturday: For more than 40 years, Dan and Lee Ross have translated the landscape outside their studio in Hovland, Minn., into elegantly minimalist designs embodying the timeless familiarity of rocks, sky and water. They work with equal success on paper, producing monoprints such as "Conversation," shown here, and in clay, which they manipulate into sleek stoneware sculptures decorated with appealingly enigmatic designs inspired in part by travels in Japan, Africa, South America and Europe. The adjacent Groveland Annex features "Branch by Branch," expressionistic portraits of trees and branches by Minneapolis painter Carolyn Brunelle. (Opening receptions 2-5 p.m. Sat. Free. Groveland Gallery, 25 Groveland Terrace, Mpls. Both shows end June 4. 612-377-7800, grovelandgallery.com.)

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
