Grossly unfair, or right move?

Yes, school officials should discipline students. this is how the world works

There is a very important point here ... a lot of the young people are getting hung up on "how" and "why" they got caught.

It doesn't matter, if you think you are old enough to have a drink, then act your age and take responsibility for doing something you know is wrong.

It sucks, but that is how the world works.

WE NEED HEROES, NOT DRINKERS

Bravo Eden Prairie. I have struggled with this in my own district and feel inspired that someone has taken a stand against illegal underage drinking. The Internet is public. Decisions about drinking are part of growing up or as someone put it, a rite of passage.

But the bottom line is that adults need to be the ones to guide young people. It is our rite of passage. It is our ethical obligation -- and the fact that any one would even pose the question if it is appropriate for an adult to discipline a drinking child shows how our world has changed. Cheers go on throughout MN in support of EP's actions. We need more heroes for our young people and we need young people to be heroes for us.

No, school officials should not discipline students. SCHOOLS SHOULD NOT BE PARENTS

While it is very alarming and yet not surprising that high school students are drinking and taking pictures of their jaunts, I do not think they should be punished by the school.

If the pictures were found on school property, that is another story. However, as a parent, I would like to be informed if my child is drinking. I would then deal with it as I feel fit. I do not need schools parenting my children. That is my responsibility.

Schools should stick to abc, 123

Here's a novel idea: PARENT YOUR CHILD.

If my child drank themselves to death, I would blame it on no one but my child and myself: My child for making the poor choice to do something so stupid, and myself for not teaching them to respect boundaries and limitations.

This is a life lesson I need to teach my child, the school should stick to the ABCs and 123s.

Last week hundreds of readers responded to this question on startribune.com:

Eden Prairie High School administrators have disciplined 13 students, suspending some from extracurricular activities, after obtaining Facebook photos of students partying. Do you think schools should use this information to discipline students?

Here four examples -- all comments are posted at www.startribune. com/a3868.
