Green toilet paper?

Green toilet paper? Q What is the greenest toilet paper to buy?

A The most environmentally friendly toilet paper you can get (without going "paperless" by using cloth or getting a bidet) is 100 percent recycled-content toilet paper. Look for toilet paper that was whitened without the use of chlorine chemicals.

Besides buying recycled toilet paper, be sure to recycle the cardboard tube from the center of the roll when it's empty. Some even offer "core-less" toilet paper in an effort to reduce waste even further.

If you have a compost bin, those toilet paper tubes are great to throw in once in a while; the pocket of air they create provides a source of oxygen for the microbes working at your compost.
