A Minnesota-published book is among 2016 winners in six categories announced Thursday night in New York City by the National Book Critics Circle.
Maggie Nelson's "The Argonauts," published by Graywolf Press, won in the Criticism category. Three books published by Minnesota publishers — Milkweed Editions, Coffee House Press and Graywolf — had been in the running.
The other winners: Autobiography: "Negroland" by Margo Jefferson; Biography: "Romantic Outlaws: The Extraordinary Lives of Mary Wollstonecraft and Her Daughter Mary Shelley" by Charlotte Gordon; Poetry: "Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay; Fiction: "The Sellout" by Paul Beatty, and Nonfiction: "Dreamland: The True Story of America's Opiate Epidemic" by Sam Quinones.
Previously announced winners included book critic Carlos Lozada, winner of the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing; Kirstin Valdez Quade, winner of the John Leonard Prize for "Night at the Fiestas," and Wendell Berry, winner of the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award.
The National Book Critics Circle is made up of more than 700 book critics and book-review editors across the country.
