This year's short list for the Best Translated Book of the Year award has been released on the website The Millions, and it includes names familiar to Minnesotans.

In fiction, there are ten finalists, including Valeria Luiselli's "The Story of My Teeth," translated from the Spanish by Christina MacSweeney and published by Coffee House Press. That book was also a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle award and was named a best book of 2015 by a number of publications, including the New York Times, NPR, the Guardian and others.

In poetry, the six finalists include "Empty Chairs," by Liu Xia, translated from the Chinese by Ming Di and Jennifer Stern and published by Graywolf Press; "Load Poems LIke Guns: Women's Poetry from Herat, Afghanistan," translated from the Persian by Farzana Marie and published by Holy Cow! Press of Duluth; and "Sea Summit," by Yi Lu, translted from the Chinese by Fiona Sze-Lorrain and published by Milkweed Editions.

The winners will be announced May 4 in New York City.
